Floatworks Review - Float Away To Another World

With the pressures and fast paced lives we lead, it’s nice to just kick back and chill, have some you time and drift off into a world of peace and tranquility. Well thats exactly what I got when I was invited to attend a 1hr session at The Floatworks in Thrale Street, London. Address Update as of 9th March 2016 The Floatworks, 17b (unit 20d) St George Wharf, Vauxhall SW8 2LE

What is floatation?

A floatation tank contains 10 inches of super-saturated salt solution, creating an environment similar to the Dead Sea which enables you to float effortlessly on the surface.
The water is heated to skin temperature, so that it's virtually impossible to distinguish between parts of the body that are in contact with the water, and those that aren't, in effect "fooling" the brain into believing that the person is floating in mid-air.

I brought my husband along to try it with me, as I thought he could do with some de-stressing. The session was booked for 11.20am and I was asked to arrive 20mins early to fill in some forms, they also gave us an instruction manual to read through which showed you what you needed to do before and after your session, we chose some music, which is played for the first 15 mins and then turns off and then starts up again when your session is finished, I chose the crystal healing sounds and my husband chose the spirit of the rainforest.

So before your taken to your room you will need to remove your shoes and use the flip flops which are provided, they also provide you with lovely white fluffy towels at a cost of £1 or you can bring your own, but on this occasion ours was complimentary.  You are then taken to your own private room complete with shower cubicle, in the tanks there is a water bottle to wash your eyes in case the salt water gets in them and a pillow to rest your head (optional) while floating.

We were lucky enough to be using their large pods which were really spacious, so before getting in you need to wash your body from head (including hair) to toe. I don’t know how they time it but as soon as I got into the shower the lights went off and the lights to the tanks illuminated the room it was pretty and the music started playing. I got a snap before entering the pod.

Before lights went off
After lights went off

"The buoyancy created by the Epsom-salt solution effectively removes the effects of gravity on the body. This will make you feel almost completely weightless, letting every single muscle in your body fully relax."

So in I got and closed the hatch, I still had the tanks light on at this stage, then turned it off once I was comfortable, a short while after the music stops your left in a peaceful atmosphere.
Your mind begins to wonder and you may even fall asleep which I believe I did, the time pasted so quickly, before I knew it the music came back on and it was time to leave.

Both my husband and I felt so relaxed that evening and had the best sleep that night just what we needed to start the working work. I would recommend you try them out for yourself.
They offer affordable membership plans to purchase outright or you can pay monthly by direct debit. I will definitely be purchasing hubby & I a year's membership package to really gain the benefits of floating. Single sessions (one hour) cost £65 or they do a special offer priced at £135 for 3 sessions for the price of two.
