Taplow House Hotel - A Stunning Georgian Retreat || Places to Stay

Taplow House Hotel - 4 Star Hotel

I celebrated my 15th Wedding Anniversary on the 11th September 2014, and wanted to do something different, so contacted my friend who works at Groupon to look out for a 1 night stay somewhere in the UK, She forwarded me a couple of options and I choose Taplow House Hotel as it really did stand out, so she kindly booked it for me - 1 night stay with dinner, a bottle of wine & breakfast. I couldn’t wait to go and just relax with the hubby away from everyone.

Taplow House Hotel is such a charming and traditional country house near London, set in six acres of beautiful grounds, offering a home from home environment with a high standard of personalised service.

A week before our stay I contacted the reception and asked whether there was anywhere local they would recommend visiting, as we were likely to arrive before check-in.

The lovely Laura (Reservations Supervisor) recommended a couple of places - Cliveden House Estate & Gardens which is a national trust property and is only 5mins from Taplow or visit historic Windsor which is 15mins away. As the weather wasn’t too bad we decided to visit the gardens, it was so tranquil, with the various water feature and waterfalls. We wondered around for a while appreciating the lush surroundings before harnessing the courage to venture into the maze. It was rather frustrating but we managed to find our way to the center and work our way out again, I say we but it was me really, as hubby was completely lost bless him...lol

We arrived at the hotel and checked into “The Hampton Suite” It really was stunning with a beautiful view of the grounds. The room was very clean and spacious and I fell in love with the four poster bed & bathroom - a shower area big enough for two, awesome! The bed was so comfortable, Tempur Mattress, Egyptian cotton sheets and a quilt so soft it's like being smothered in features.

Taplow House Hotel was an Elizabethan manor built in 1568 and a devastating fire completely destroyed the house in 1660. The existing Georgian property was built in 1751 and it remained a private residence until 1958. Today this hotel remains privately owned, with 3 sister properties: The Royal Garden Hotel in London, the Goodwood Park Hotel and York hotel in Singapore.

We relaxed with a couple of drinks before getting ready for dinner. As timing would have it, many of the guests appeared to opt for room service, giving us the whole dining area to ourselves. I must say, I did really enjoy having the place to ourselves, as it felt more romantic and very exclusive.
Maybe next time we will also try the option of bedroom dining, which is optional.

Berry's Restaurant - We were greeted by waitress Sarah who showed us to our table by the window, the ambiance was really lovely with soft music playing in the background. We ordered a bottle of red and chose our starters & mains.

Hubby had the whipped goats cheese mousse – salt baked with pickled beetroot, Summer cress salad, walnut sponge, black olives

I had the Pressed Terrine of confit chicken leg and cabbage –picked mushrooms, baby carrot, tarragon emulsion

For the main hubby had the Slow braised and seared pork belly and loin – Girolle mushrooms, charred baby leek, smoked celeriac, green peas

and I the Seared Breast of Gressingham duck – pearl barley, cauliflower textures, shimeji mushrooms, pickled fennel.

The food was really delicious, we were both very happy, and the staff were very attentive and polite.

Next we moved onto dessert, hubby ordered – Banana sticky toffee pudding -salted caramel, honeycombe brittle, vanilla ice-cream

I chose the Green Tea Pannacotta – poached peach, Amaretto jelly, Amaretto crumb

After dinner we retired to our room, where I gave hubby a lovely NYR Organics Facial he is so game my husband never afraid to try or do new things.

Morning came round too quickly, we both slept well and still on such a high from the day before. We showered got dressed and made our way to breakfast. You are offered a cooked breakfast or the continental. We both went for the continental.

We were really sad we had to leave so soon, but even as we were leaving the staff asked of our experience of our time spent. Naturally we both gave glowing remarks and were both moved by the genuine sense of hospitality we received as we arrived and as we made our way home.

Taplow also cater for weddings & private events and is the perfect venue for a romantic getaway.
