Homemade Coconut & Lemon Deodorant

It has been my mission to use nothing but natural products on my skin. Since our skin is our largest organ, we need to take measures to ensure that what we put on it is as natural as possible.
Harmful chemicals found in deodorants can play a part in the diminishment of our health. i.e Aluminum - linked to breast cancer in woman, prostate in men and an increased risk of Alzheimers.

I have brought a few well known organic & non toxic deodorants which have worked well enough, but i still felt conscious that I had body odor, this all natural DIY deodorant can be made at home with ingredients from your cupboard or you can purchase from your local supermarket/health foods store.

I stumbled upon this recipe by Vintage Amanda and I just had to give it a try and I'm so glad I did.

Recipe

2 tbsp organic coconut oil
3 tbsp arrowroot
1 tbsp baking soda
5 drops lemon essential oil

Mix all ingredients together and place into a container.

Coconut oil is moisturising and has a natural antibacterial effect.
Baking Soda & Lemon Essential oil - absorbs odors & is also an antibacterial.
Arrowroot enables active ingredients to penetrate the upper levels of your skin allowing great moisture absorbing qualities.

If you have sensitive skin add more arrowroot and less baking soda.

How to use: Use about a 1/4 tsp, rub under each armpit with fingers the heat from your skin will help it melt.

I've tested this for about a month now and while working out in the gym and I must say it works really well at keeping you smelling fresh.

NB: This is not antiperspirant so please do not expect this to stop you from sweating, sweating is a natural way for the body to cool itself down. But saying that I must say, I have found that I don't sweat half as much as I use too.

I will never buy deodorant again.

Do let me know if you try it and if it works for you.
