Winter-Proof Your Skin || Winter Series

Beat the Winter Blues

Looking after our skin during the winter months can be a pain, humidity levels in the air drop which in turn has a negative effect because of the lack of moisture, resulting to dry, itchy and flaky skin, caused by the cold and the use of central heating.

My skin can get quite bad around this time of the year and I would suffer with dry, itchy & flaky skin and a lack radiance. Having a good skincare routine can help combat some of these horrors resulting in happy, healthy glowing skin from top to toe. Indulge and feed your skin with lotions and potions.

Face & Body

Opt for thick and creamy i.e homemade Shea butter mixture to help lock in moisture and repair damaged skin or a dry oil - my favourites are coconut oil or Argan oil - full of essential fatty acids to hydrate the skin. Choose products that will work/suit you, I know what I have mentioned are not for everyone, but they work best for my skin. Remember to exfolate too to remove dry skin.

Over the pass few weeks I have been testing out some products that were sent to me. First up it this rather gorgeous body scrub by Natural Dead Sea Skin Care :

Malki Dead Sea Body Scrub with Frankincense Oil

Malki's Dead Sea scrub banishes dull dry skin, leaving you silky and soft... my skin felt amazing after using it, not only is it a exfoliator gently removing dead skin cells it's a moisturiser too, leaving your skin well hydrated and the smell is devine and quite therapeutic which is an added bonus. After a long day, simply run yourself a bath or use it in the shower by scooping up a generous amount, and massage all over your body and rinse away - massaging is a good way to help smooth the surface and flush away toxin build-up.

I just love the smell of Frankincense, makes you feel like royalty from the days of old. It also has many added benefits, from anti-aging to relieving stress and inducing a restful sleep. What I love about this product is that it is chemical free and effective on all skin types, just remember not to use it on broken skin as it will sting. Malki Dead Sea Scrub with Frankincense oil in now available in Boots stores nationwide at £7.79 per 300ml.

Olverum Bath Oil

Olverum Bath Oil is a rather luxurious & indulgent bathing experience to say the least.. a blend of some the most wonderous essential oils that benefit the soul, easing stress and tension.

I used this after a intense workout, just half a capful is enough for one bath, I'm not going to lie I was tempted to pour more but you really don't need a lot. Pour the oil into a running bath and use your hand to disperse the oil & magical aromas, the smell alone is just gorgeous and the whole house was filled in its wonderful fragrance.

Once you submerge your body, you will feel so relaxed, and your skin soft and supple, it also helped ease my tenses muscles.

Olverum Bath Oil contains a blend of 10 highly concentrated essential oils and includes some of my favourite oils that I often use as aromatherapy i.e Lavender, Geranium & Eucalyptus. This oil was created and herbs selected for there therapeutic properties as well as their ability to work synergistically to be even more effective.

Not only is this bath oil soothing it wont leave a oily rim around the bath that you can get with some bath oils. It's also known to help aid a restful sleep and help with colds and flu - truly ingenious I say.

Olverum is available at Harvey Nicolas or online here - 125ml bottle is £26 (enough for 25 baths) and the 250ml bottle is £48 (enough for 50 baths).

Sukin Natural Skincare

Sukin are Australia's best selling natural skin care brand,  I love what this brand stands for - natural, no harsh chemicals and vegan friendly.

Moisture Restoring Night Cream - thick, creamy and absorbs into the skin well leaving no oily residue. Upon waking my face felt supple and less dry. I don't originally use creams on my face, just oils but I was rather impressed with how it left my face feeling - a wonderful hydrating night time moisturiser enriched with skin healing rosehip, evening primrose and borage oil to promote elasticity and protect the skin's moisture barrier.
If your looking for a night cream that will replenish your skin while you sleep then you will love this.

Revitalising Facial Scrub - This gentle cleanser uses non-abrasive, micro particles of Bamboo extract and ground Walnut shells to remove dirt and impurities leaving clean, radiant skin. Aloe Vera and Chamomile work to soothe skin an Rosehip, Jojoba and Sesame replenish and protect the skin. This cleanser really helped to get rid of the dry, rough and flaky patches I had on my cheeks making it easier for my skin to absorb my moisturiser and improve circulation

Sukin is available from Boots, Holland & Barrett and independently retailer nationwide.
