The Stress-Less Fitness Programme || Rapid Breathing Meditation

Stress-Less Fitness Collective

Update: Sunday 22nd April 2018

Woke up around 7:30am, showered ready for what the day had in store, but with it being my monthly cycle went back to bed as I was lacking energy and wanted to be on form for the day, my session with Michael founder of Stress-Less Fitness wasn't due to start until 2pm so had plenty of time.

Rapid Breathing

So today was about rapid breathing to elevate the heart rate which would put me in a stressed state - 3 long deep breaths in and out through the nose to start, then 30secs fast deep/heavy breathing (as if I was hyperventilating), after 30secs I would hold my breath until I was ready to breathe out. The aim was to bring down my heart rate to normal and my breathing back to a steady & controlled state, I did this 3 times before starting my meditation.

My mind was rather distracted today, I tried to block out the noises around me of people walking around and talking and I guess I was feeling self-conscious that people were watching me, I meditated for 10mins which felt like forever, trying to focus my thoughts inwardly with all the distractions around me was a challenge to say the least. After 10mins my results wasn't too bad 86% calm (so I managed to stay calm for 8m 35s).

Worked on a variation of different exercises for flexibility, mobility and stability, it was hard yet a fun session. Michael likes to push you which I love, and wouldn't expect anything less from a personal trainer - I'm there to work hard after all. What's the saying "Go Hard or Go Home" I finished off my session with some foam rolling, everyones favourite thing to do after a workout.

After working out, some more meditation this time for 5mins, my mind was still all over the place - on everything else by my practice... Grrr! What and why was my mind so busy today and why was I finding it so hard to get into a calm state. Results show me at 48% calm.

My results from earlier was so different, I could only manage 2 minutes in a calm state of restful focus this time round.

What I've Learned

I've learned today that your not always going to get the same results all the time, that some days will be better than others and to keep my focus on the process and not the outcome.

Next week will be my third session, so do come back and check out how I'm doing.

If you haven't read about last weeks Stress-Less Fitness session do go and have a read.
